Occidental Vineyard Pinot Noir 2023
West Sonoma Coast

Occidental Vineyard covers 5 acres along Taylor Lane, just above the Pacific Ocean. Planted decades ago by the Dutton family on Goldridge and Yorkville loam, the site has passed through several careful stewards while keeping its distinctive character. Coastal redwoods frame the vineyard, and fog drifts in early and departs late, slowing ripening and shaping the fruit. Pinot Noir from this site shows red fruit, rose petal, tea leaf, and coastal spice—an expression of ocean and ridge, sunlight and fog.
Dark purple in the glass, this Pinot Noir speaks to the maritime power of Occidental’s coastal ridgelines forested with ancient redwood. Aromas of cranberry, dried rose petal, and kirsch lead into a palate of profound elegance including black plum, and a touch of cassis interwoven with celery salt and dried thyme. The structure is vertical and graceful, with firm yet refined tannins, mouthwatering acidity, and a long, lingering finish. Elevated and savory, the wine balances intensity and restraint - complex, profound, and poised to evolve beautifully in bottle.
